Our current building was originally built as a car dealership and has had many uses in its 100+ year history. We’re close to the Great Miami River and recreation trail, and only a few miles from the Twin Valley Backpack Trail – a 22-mile backpacking loop between Germantown and Twin Creek MetroParks. Why is our name Great Miami Outfitters?

We’re located in southwestern Ohio where the Great Miami River is located. The Great Miami originates upstream from Indian Lake and flows southwest to its confluence with the Ohio River, west of Cincinnati.

The watershed includes the Great Miami, Stillwater and Mad rivers; and is known for its water supply, recreation and high-quality streams. We believe it is one of many under-used natural assets of the region, and we’d like more people to enjoy the area’s outdoor amenities.

Meet Our Friendly and Knowledgeable Team

AndrewAndrew  – Known as the “gear guru,” Andrew prides himself on keeping up on the latest gear. His knowledge is invaluable to our customers looking to get outfitted with the right gear for their specific adventure. Don’t be surprised if he remembers the pair of boots he fitted you in two years ago, (or longer). He is an avid backpacker and paddler, and a trip leader for an annual Boundary Waters Canoe trip for the past 12 years, guiding high school students into the backcountry. He is an ACA certified Level 2 Touring Kayak Instructor, has Wilderness First Responder certification from WMA. His hobbies include backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, rock-climbing, baking, craft beer-brewing and spending time with his wife and two children.

DanDan – When Dan is not enjoying time outdoors, he’s the wizard behind our website and social media pages. Dan has spent numerous summer vacations in Northern Ontario where he camped, fished and canoed with his family. He is an avid fly fisher, backpacker and paddler. He is an ACA certified Level 1 Kayak Instructor and has Wilderness First Aid certification from SOLO. His “handyman” skills are put to use in building displays, repairing and installing accessories on kayaks, and maintaining the shop. His hobbies include fly-tying, hiking, backpacking and traveling. Dan paddled 90 miles on the Great Miami River during 4 days in March 2014. Other recent adventures include hiking the “Devil’s Garden” primitive trail in Arches National Park in Utah, backpacking at Red River Gorge in Kentucky and Charles C. Deam Wilderness in Indiana, and paddling in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota.

AbbeyAbbey “Babs” -“Just one of the guys,” Abbey loves working at Great Miami Outfitters since 2011. She is an avid camper, rock climber and paddler. As a young girl, her parents frequently took her whitewater canoeing on the Youghiogheny, New River Gorge, Ocoee, The Gauley and Frozen Head. Although she’s a Miamisburg Native, she’s spent most of her weekends camping at her land in Hillsboro Ohio for the last 18 years. Her favorite place to rock climb is at Red River Gorge in Kentucky. Abbey loves camping and trail riding with her horse, Tommy. She also enjoys stand-up paddleboarding, traveling and backpacking with her boyfriend and her dog, Kujo, and anything outdoors. She loves to sleep in her ENO hammock, even in the colder winter months. Her studies include Wildlife Science, Environmental and Natural Resources. She is very friendly and knowledgeable about outdoor gear and can help you get the right gear for your next adventure.

BobRobert “Curious Bob” – Bob studied environmental sciences at the State University of New York College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Science. Bob has gained many life experiences in the back country. He traveled to the high plains of Idaho where he hiked the canyons. Bob returned east to snowshoe in the Adirondacks of New York, tracking the populations of wintering wildlife for his studies. Bob’s adventures then took him up north to the lakes of Minnesota to explore the pristine wilderness of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The allure of the waters sparked his passion for kayaking. Bob then became a Level 1 Kayak Instructor, certified by the American Canoe Association, to share his fondness of paddling the local waterways. Bob is currently back working at Great Miami Outfitters and always happy to share his knowledge of the great outdoors to ensure our customers have fun and safe trip.

PaulPaul – Paul joined Great Miami Outfitters this spring and is excited to surround himself by people who are passionate about the outdoors. Being from Northern Michigan, he grew up hiking, boating, and building sick forts. Paul received his degree from University of Dayton while recreating in places like Red River Gorge, and Zaleski State Park. Since then, he has attained his Wilderness First Responder and worked in Steamboat Springs Colorado as a mountain biking and backcountry skiing guide. Paul has backpacked and paddled in the Arctic Circle of Scandinavia, mountain biked on slick rock in Moab, Utah, and slept in snow caves in northern Colorado. He is now excited to be back in the Midwest. When Paul is not in the shop, he is probably riding his bicycle somewhere in the Miami Valley!

AnthonyAnthony – Anthony joined the Great Miami Outfitters’ team in January 2015 and has thoroughly enjoyed outfitting customers for their travels and adventures. He enjoys backpacking, trail running, paddling, and is also certified for Wilderness First Aid from SOLO and is an ACA Level 1 Certified Kayaking Instructor. His coolest adventure was the four day, 360-mile, unsupported cycling trip from Dayton to Ironton, OH. Most recently, Anthony backpacked the Outer Mountain Loop in Big Bend National Park in Texas over Christmas time. His experience in the outdoors has fueled his passion for protecting the environment. Anthony graduated from the University of Dayton in May 2015 with a degree in Environmental Geology.

JeremyJeremy “Woody” – Jeremy now lives in Pennsylvania, but remains as one of our trip leaders. He has been an avid backpacker since the mid nineteen-nineties. He first began exploring the trails of Kentucky’s Red River Gorge. Over the past twenty years, his adventures have taken him from the highpoints of Colorado and Wyoming to the edge of the Tongue of the Ocean, 120 feet below the surface of the Atlantic. Prior to coming to GMO, he worked as a rock climbing, rappelling, and kayaking guide in the Hocking Hills. Jeremy is an ACA certified Level 2 River Kayak and Level 1 Tandem Canoe Instructor, with an Adaptive Paddling Endorsement. He has also maintained a Wilderness First Responder Certification for the last decade, and is currently certified through Wilderness Medical Associates. When he’s not at the shop, Jeremy can be found hiking through Germantown MetroPark with his wife and dogs, or paddling down one of our many local creeks and rivers. All time favorite cat-hole spot: Tucked behind a ten foot boulder in the terminal moraine, at the base of the Dinwoody Glacier, 11,700 feet up in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming.

Meet Our Kayak Fishing Ambassador Team
Our kayak fishing ambassadors are passionate about fishing from kayaks. They are very knowledgeable about fishing in general, and would love to share what they know. If you have questions, simply email them to fishing@greatmiamioutfitters.com!

AaronAaron “Big Fish” Stiger – Aaron was voted 2nd nationally in the 2014 Kayak Angler’s Choice Awards, has appeared twice on the cover of Kayak Angler Magazine, writes for YakAngling Magazine, and represents a variety of prestigious Pro Staffs, including Jackson Kayak, Bending Branches, Manley Rods and more. Fishing has been a way of life for Aaron Stiger since he was a young child. The curiosity and wonderment of what is lurking under the water, just waiting to strike, has always captivated him. Other hobbies come and go, but fishing will always be a pastime that will hold a constant place in his life. Aaron picked up kayak fishing in 2009 when he realized that banks were far too restrictive, and boats simply could not go to the uncharted waters a kayak could reach. Since his first cast in a kayak, Aaron’s passion for fishing was taken to a new level, as he realized nature’s sights and sounds are amplified through the experience. From the small rivers, creeks, and lakes in West-Central, Ohio to the shores of Lake Erie, Aaron has been fortunate to land many citation-level fish angling from his kayak. Learning from others and applying that information has played a huge part in his fishing success. Aaron believes the knowledge-base and helpfulness of kayak fishing community cannot be understated as it has been invaluable to his growth as an angler. As a GMO Kayak Fishing AmBASSador Team Member, Aaron is looking forward to contributing his experience, knowledge and passion to help others develop their skills and make the most out of their time on the water.

RobRob “House” Orr – Rob lives in Cincinnati and is known as “House” on the popular forum OhioGameFishing.com website. Some call him a “fishing maniac,” because he truly loves and lives to fish. He got into fishing as a child during a 15-month battle with cancer. Fishing was the only activity the doctors would let him enjoy, so I he became very attached to it. His grandfather was an expert bass fisherman in the area and taught him most of his fishing fundamentals. Rob fished recreationally throughout high school and college, and even studied marine biology as a minor. It wasn’t until medical school, however, that he really became addicted to fishing, as it gave him a great outlet from the stress of exams.  He learned the ins-and-outs of almost every park lake in Cincinnati, as well as nearly every retention pond inside the 275 loop.  He says “I got very good at catching catfish and largemouth bass, but as I got more and more obsessed with fishing, I finally discovered the rivers and the monsters that inhabit the bigger waters in our area.” In 2010, he moved close to the Little Miami River and set out to learn everything he could about it. He befriended some of the big players in the hybrid fishing community early on, and they showed him the ropes on how to target these fish in the Ohio River valley. Rob got very good at catching hybrids and most people would agree that he is now considered one of the best in the business at catching them in our area. After he discovered fishing on the Ohio River later in the year, the fun really began. Rob has caught some truly gigantic fish in the last four years out of the Ohio River and its tributaries, including some 40+ pound catfish, 30+ pound carp, 10-15 pound stripers and hybrid striped bass, 50+ inch gar, and even a 23 inch smallmouth bass. His goal is to try and beat the 1966 state record for heaviest gar, and he is also 100% focused on beating the 17.8pound record hybrid striped bass before he dies.
