Great Miami River
September Saturday Morning Paddle Floats
Sept. 4, 2010
Sept. 11, 2010
Sept. 18, 2010
Sept. 25, 2010
A great way to enjoy Saturday mornings in September. Join in and enjoy our September Saturday Morning Paddle Floats down the Great Miami River. Afterwards, stop in at one of the local downtown Miamisburg restaurants for lunch. Paddle down our local waterway from West Carrollton to downtown Miamisburg. It's a relaxing 5.5 mile "moving water" trail through the urban wilderness. This trip usually takes between 1-1/2 and 2 hours. If you've never seen the river from this perspective, you're in for a treat. You'll have a good chance to spot various wildlife including great blue herons, beavers, red-tailed hawks and more.
Cost:
Shuttle Only: $5 per person
Equipment Rental and Shuttle: $15 to $30, call for details.
Prerequisite:
Recommended ages of 14 and older. All paddlers must sign a waiver before participating. An adult or guardian must sign for children under 18. Dress to get wet, and get ready to have some fun.
Use your own kayak or canoe
Cost: $5 for the people shuttle. Please call in advance so we know you are coming. Drop off your boat at starting area in West Carrollton between 8:30 and 9:30 AM, then drive to finish area in Miamisburg. A shuttle leaves at approximately 9:00, 9:30 and 10:00 AM to take you back up to your boat at the starting area.
Rent a kayak or canoe
We have a limited number of boats for rent. Advance registration and payment (in store or by phone) must be made by Friday evening before 6:30 PM. Please let us know your approximate height and weight so we can fit you into the proper boat. On Saturday morning drive to the finish area in Miamisburg. Plan to ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE SHUTTLE LEAVES to get checked in and sign the waivers. A shuttle leaves at approximately 9:00, 9:30 and 10:00 AM to take you up to the starting area where your boat, paddle and PFD will be waiting for you.
It's easy:
We'll sign you in, and give you a wristband. Park your vehicle at the finish point (take-out) on the west river bank at the Linden Street bridge. Hop on the shuttle (you have to have a wristband) and it will take you back up to the starting point where your boat will be waiting for you. That way when you get off the river you'll be back at your car. It's that simple.

NOTE: This event is dependent on weather and river flow conditions. This is not a guided river trip. Prior kayaking or canoeing experience is required and you must have demonstrable experience to attend. New boaters may consider attending recreational kayaking classes prior to participation. Our Kayak Basics Instruction will get you started. When on the water, always wear a personal flotation device (PFD).

Wooden Kayak
& Canoe Display

Alan Gearhart of Fine Woodworks in Belpre Ohio displayed his beautiful hand-built custom wood strip canoes and kayaks on our patio on July 24th. One of his boats was the winner in the 2009 Georgetown South Carolina Wooden Boat Show. These boats were built to be paddled, however they are each one-of-a-kind works of art. Alan is a Master Craftsman with a love for paddling. "I believe that quality boat building is almost a lost art... and the next generation needs to see real craftsmanship. That is why I build canoes and kayaks from wood strips." If you missed Alan, you can stop in the boat shop to see two of his boats!
